DESIGN PRINCIPLES
INSTRUCTOR: CATE ROMAN 
FALL 2020 

Exploration of creation and function of design as a tool of communication including issues of information, concept, development, and execution. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the principles of visual organization and typography and the study of the elements of design as applied to graphic design problem solving. 

An exploration of the neighborhood around us and identifying form and space that suggest letterforms. Compositions that juxtapose image and letter ultimately creating a booklet of found images.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

An exploration of color palette to create mood, page composition to create movement and hierarchy, and
contextual meaning all come together in the book cover project. Multiple relationships across a page
activating the text and support meaning with design elements are the main focus of this project.
